Guest Lecture
Every year, the NPT hosts a special guest lecturer who examines current issues in preservation. These lectures are free and open to the public and conclude with a question and answer session, followed by a reception. Please check back for more details regarding our 2010 speaker.

Stroll Open House
The NPT celebrated the start of the holiday season with a Stroll Open House. 85 Main Street was open to the public for touring from 1 - 4 p.m. This historic home is protected by a preservation easement and reflects an important part of the work NPT does on the island. A holiday gift shop offered a selection of unique gifts for architecture and history buffs.

One Book One Island
A collaborative Nantucket project of community partners and sponsors, which seek to promote reading, literacy and community by encouraging islanders to read, discuss and reflect on the same book.

Preservation Month
Preservation Month provides the community of Nantucket an opportunity to celebrate the diverse and unique heritage of our island while emphasizing the vital importance of protecting our history. The NPT partners with organziations across the island, planning a variety of lectures, workshops and other events throughout the month.

July 15
Summer Kitchens Tour
This special event illustrates how historic homes can be sensitively updated with modern kitchens and how historic kitchens can be incorporated into everyday life. Trained docents in each home provide historical facts and stories at each home, while local chefs provide snacks and recipes. Our Marketplace hosts a variety of unique vendors with specialty house and kitchen items. This year's event will take place on Union Street. Traditional Building Methods Demonstration
Chimneys can be an maintenance nightmare for owners of historic houses. Unfortunately many so called repairs cause further damage by using concrete  or opt for costly replacement. Learn how using lime mortar--the traditional building material for historic chimneys-- can prevent costly repairs, eliminate moisture problems, and protect the integrity of your historic chimney.

Exhibit Reception:  Modernism at Risk
Large-scale photographs and interpretative panels with five case studies that explore the role designers play in preserving Modern architectural landmarks, including newly designed panel on Nantucket contibuted by Michael May, with brief statements. Light appetizers and beverages served. Sponsored by the World Monument Fund, Preservation Institute: Nantucket and the NPT at Sherborne Hall, 11 Centre Street. Special reception and program from 6 – 8 p.m.

July 30
Annual Meeting and Historic Preservation Awards
Guest Speaker: Myrick Howard, President of Preservation North Carolina, with luncheon to follow at the Great Harbor Yacht Club. The Preservation Award is designed to honor a builder, owner, or other individual involved in preservation of one or more historic properties. As advocates for Nantucket's historic architecture, an important part of our mission is to recognize such efforts. Meeting is open to the public, tickets to the luncheon can be purchased at the NPT office.

August 12
August Fête
An evening of fun, food, and preservation pointers, the August Fête is a feast for the eyes and palette. The evening will be comprised of a progressive tour of historic cottages restored to accommodate modern life while keeping their architectural integrity intact. This year's event will take place in the Vestal Street neighborhood and will feature several of the Maria Mitchell Association's buildings.
